Historic Oakwood Cemetery does not have an owner. It is a private, non profit cemetery chartered in 1869 and run by a Board of Directors. Our goal is to serve the greater Raleigh community with compassion and caring when they need us the most and to assist families throughout their difficult time.
YES! Historic Oakwood Cemetery is 102 acres (which currently includes Raleigh’s Oakwood City Park). We anticipate having available burial space for sale for at least the next 200 years. Many beautiful burial sites and/or cremation options in multiple sections are currently available. We have many cremation options and crypt and niche space in our mausoleum.
Yes! Historic Oakwood Cemetery is open to people of all faiths and from all walks of life. More than 22,000 people have chosen Historic Oakwood Cemetery to serve as their final resting place. A small number of families interred here are of historical importance. However, the vast majority of those interred here are simply North Carolina residents who possessed a desire for the beautiful and serene setting that Historic Oakwood offers.

Yes. Oakwood Cemetery has a Field of Honor, a modern veterans cemetery. Patterned after Arlington National Cemetery, we install white marble government issued upright markers free of charge from the US government. It’s an honor to serve our veterans. Oakwood Cemetery has many options for the interment of cremated remains. Our community mausoleum has niches available for purchase. We also allow 2 cremated remains per traditional burial space. Oakwood is proud to be the first cemetery in the triangle that offers shared obelisks for cremated remains. The obelisks are located in Magnolia Walk, in the heart of one of the oldest sections of the cemetery. Contact the office for additional information on any of these (and more) cremation options.
