OAKWOOD CEMETERY: A CEMETERY FULL OF LIFEGraffiti Removal from Vandalism at Historic Oakwood Cemetery
Almost 150 years ago, the citizens of Raleigh envisioned this property in the "suburbs" of downtown as a final resting place for our Confederate dead. Two years later it expanded into Oakwood Cemetery, a place where people could find comfort among ancestors.
Today, Historic Oakwood Cemetery's 102 acres are a beautiful, noble resting place, providing permanent memorialization for the departed, and a source of serenity for visitors. Families come here to remember a loved one, to pay respect to an ancestor they never met, to learn about their community, and to leave with a connection to their past.
The services and options we offer continue to expand so we can meet the changing needs of our community. With over 200 years of active burial space remaining on our grounds we are here to serve families for generations to come. We have many beautiful sections with burial space to choose for either traditional or cremation options as well as a community mausoleum for traditional or niche interment, and our staff will gladly assist you in ordering memorials, inscriptions and other memorial items.
The history of North Carolina is intertwined through Oakwood Cemetery. It can be observed in the memorials, our architecture, the people, and the events we commemorate.
