SUMMARY:Observe Memorial Day at Oakwood: Family Tours and History Tent
DESCRIPTION:Observe Memorial Day with your family at Oakwood Cemetery. \nMemorial Day is a holiday for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. \n2024 is the 100th anniversary of Raleigh’s 1st national Memorial Day. \n  \nFree tours and activities \nNoon -3pm \nOur history tent will be set up by the cemetery office\, attendees can stop in to work on a Memorial Day craft and join a tour before our recognition ceremony at 4pm. \nSign up for a FREE tour with a costumed tour guide featuring war dead buried and remembered at Oakwood.  \nIn 1924 women from the American legion Ladies Auxiliary organized our first official observance here at Oakwood. These women where the mothers\, sisters and daughters of soldiers who fought in the great war. \nTours will begin: \n12:00 \n1:00 \n2:00 \n3:00 \nThis family friendly event is a great way to observe Memorial Day\, the perfect venue to hear veteran’s stories and thank them for their sacrifice. We will talk about military headstones\, symbolism\, iconography and chat about why\, when\, and how American soldiers are transferred home after death. \nOur Memorial Day Observance Ceremony begins at 4pm in the Field of Honor. \nAttendees should arrive via the Oakwood Avenue entrance\, there will be event signs to help navigate visitors through the cemetery to Field of Honor II where the observance ceremony will take place.

SUMMARY:Easter Sunrise Service
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the Raleigh Moravian God’s Acre Trustees and Oakwood Cemetery\, we extend an invitation to our community to attend the Easter Dawn Service in Oakwood.\n\nIt begins this Easter Morning\, 31 March\,  at 6:50 AM on the Chapel Circle Section as the sun rises and will conclude in the Moravian God’s Acre.\n\nThere will be a prelude by our band of Easter chorales and hymns\, including Beethoven’s Creation Hymn\, for at least twenty minutes before the service begins with the affirmation by our Pastor that  “The Lord is Risen!” followed by the response of the worshippers that “The Lord is Risen Indeed!”  During the walk from Chapel Circle to our God’s Acre\, the band plays chorales antiphonally.  The liturgies at the Chapel Circle and in the God’s Acre are ecumenical statements of Christian faith and belief in the Resurrection.\n\nAll are welcome.  If attending\, please pull in the front gates and follow the Event directional signs.
