DESCRIPTION:Join Oakwood Cemetery and Stacy Jurgens for an informative discussion on the Five Wishes document. Five Wishes was the first advance directive to address personal\, emotional\, and spiritual issues in addition to meeting medical and legal criteria. \nAttendees will receive a copy of the five wishes\, the nation’s only national advance care planning program\, “Providing peace of mind for 25 years”. Five Wishes was designed to be accessible\, legal\, and easy-to-understand with the goal of helping people discuss and document their wishes in a non-threatening\, life-affirming way. When complete and notarized\, The Five Wishes document is an advanced directive and accepted nationally at hospitals and end of life care programs as a testament to your desired treatment. \nStacy Jurgens\, M.A. in psychology and more than 10 years of social services experience in skilled nursing facilities and end-of-life care units working through this document with residents and their families; she is passionate about working with people to ensure they experience their highest quality of life on their own terms. \nThis workshop is the perfect place to bring all of your questions\, go over The Five Wishes document and hear about other assessable planning tools. \nRSVP and ticket required. SUMMARY:Observe Memorial Day at Oakwood: Family Tours and History Tent
DESCRIPTION:Observe Memorial Day with your family at Oakwood Cemetery. \nMemorial Day is a holiday for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. \n2024 is the 100th anniversary of Raleigh’s 1st national Memorial Day. \n  \nFree tours and activities \nNoon -3pm \nOur history tent will be set up by the cemetery office\, attendees can stop in to work on a Memorial Day craft and join a tour before our recognition ceremony at 4pm. \nSign up for a FREE tour with a costumed tour guide featuring war dead buried and remembered at Oakwood.  \nIn 1924 women from the American legion Ladies Auxiliary organized our first official observance here at Oakwood. These women where the mothers\, sisters and daughters of soldiers who fought in the great war. \nTours will begin: \n12:00 \n1:00 \n2:00 \n3:00 \nThis family friendly event is a great way to observe Memorial Day\, the perfect venue to hear veteran’s stories and thank them for their sacrifice. We will talk about military headstones\, symbolism\, iconography and chat about why\, when\, and how American soldiers are transferred home after death. \nOur Memorial Day Observance Ceremony begins at 4pm in the Field of Honor. \nAttendees should arrive via the Oakwood Avenue entrance\, there will be event signs to help navigate visitors through the cemetery to Field of Honor II where the observance ceremony will take place.
