DESCRIPTION:Oakwood Cemetery is truly a cemetery full of life\, we maintain an active arboretum\, critical urban wildlife habitat\, as well as curated habitats for migratory and endangered species.\nJoin Oakwood Cemetery the second Thursday of the month for a morning of citizen science. The cemetery uses iNaturalist\, a free app available on all platforms to collect and record observations. We will walk together through the cemetery observing and recording what we see.\nWhat to expect:\n-Basic introduction to the I-naturalist app for those who need it\n-A low impact stroll through the cemetery\, our route will be subject to change and can easily be fit to suit visitors of all ages and abilities.\n-the opportunity to observe birds\, insects\, plants and animals in our unique urban wildlife habitat.\n-Engaging discussion catered to participants and drawn from curriculum designed to engage visitors of all ages.\nAbout the I-Naturalist App:\nFounded in 2008 as part of a graduate school project\, the iNaturalist community now has over 750\,000 participants around the world and is a joint initiative of the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society. The main goal of iNaturalist is to connect people to nature\, in addition to contributing useful global biodiversity data to support science. SUMMARY:Oakwood Cemetery Roads CLOSED AM Day of the Dead 5k
DESCRIPTION:If you’ve ever wanted to run a 5k through our grounds\,  be sure to sign up for the Day of the Dead 5k\, benefitting the Brentwood Boys and Girls Club- https://dayofthedeadrun.com/ \nOur grounds will be closed from 9am-12 noon while the runners (of all ages) run from down town Raleigh and through the Cemetery.  Once the last runner exits\, we will open our gates. \nWe do not schedule funerals for the morning of the run.  If you would like to visit your loved ones during the time the gates are closed to vehicular traffic and are unable to walk in to visit\, staff will have golf carts to take you to their grave. \nJoin us for the 10th anniversary of this great run for charity! \nWe are always looking for volunteers to help us at water stations and to direct the runners.  If you’d like to volunteer be sure to contact Robin at robin@historicoakwood.com \n
