Thank you for your interest in Oakwood Cemetery. As you may know, we are dedicated to promoting and preserving Oakwood Cemetery's natural beauty and history. That is why Friends of Oakwood Cemetery, a non-profit group dedicated to these principles, is now forming. This group will assist the Board of Directors and the cemetery staff in the preservation and exploitation of our southern and national treasure.

It is envisioned that the membership of Friends of Oakwood Cemetery will be composed of a diverse group of citizens with interests in history, genealogy, archaeology, culture and nature preservation, engraving, horticulture, gardening, art, education, funeral customs, and all others who care about our heritage and our ancestors. Young people are especially welcome.

Friends of Oakwood Cemetery appreciate the importance of well-maintained burial sites as cultural resources and are committed to the protection and preservation of these sites from unwarranted disturbances, both natural and man-made.

Oakwood is a true treasure in downtown Raleigh and deserves our care and attention. In return, Oakwood offers a multitude of historical and cultural opportunities just waiting to happen.
